Audi R8 LMX

Beating BMW‘s futuristic i8 to the market will be a brand new LMX edition of Audi‘s R8. Billed as “the world’s first production car with laser high beams,” the R8 LMX features automatically-activated laser high beams to greatly enhance both visibility and safety. Emitting white light at a color temperature of 5,500 Kelvin, the lights utilize four high-powered laser diodes while a camera-based system of sensors detects other vehicles on the road and actively adjusts the light pattern accordingly.

The vehicle boasts the likes of an “Ara Blue” exterior and carbon fiber accessories in addition to its new lighting tech, as well as a glossy black tailpipe, carbon fiber ceramic brake discs, and 19″ alloys. Inside, nappa leather lines the seats in conjunction with blue contrasts, carbon fiber trim, and an Alcantara headliner. Finally, power comes via a 5.2-liter V10 engine coupled with a seven-speed S tronic transmission and Quattro AWD – a system capable of 398 lb-ft of torque, acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, and a top speed of 199 mph. Limited to 99 production units, the Audi R8 LMX is set to debut this summer and can be ordered now with prices starting at €210,000 EUR (approximately $289,000 USD).
