Get Back On Track For 2019
3.jpg

Come wintertime, most of us excel at a few things: sipping whiskey-soaked beverages that make our insides warm and fuzzy. Trading AMRAP (as many reps as possible) workouts for AMHCAP (as many holiday cookies as possible) ones. And, in a possibly related story, putting on some weight. This can be a downer, regardless of your personal fitness goals, but especially if your 2019 resolution involved putting on a few pounds of muscle.

The bad news is that if you’re hoping to tone up and build size in the new year, you’ll need to do a lot more than just curtail your involvement in winter-induced gluttony.

1. Start with the basics

Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is a stellar physique. If you’re looking to put on a decent amount of size but you have no proficiency with basic movement patterns, make sure you fix that first. Focus on mastering things like loaded squats, deadlifts, lunges, and presses—all of which challenge a number of different muscle groups at once—to get started. Isolation exercises really shouldn’t be the heart of your program. In other words, biceps curls can wait.

2. Get strong to get huge

Muscle strength and muscle size are not the same thing, and if you don't pay attention to the former, you're never going to be successful with the latter. Most guys who want to put on muscle and not lose weight typically aren’t as strong as they could be.

To avoid this fate, start off with workouts that involve lower numbers of reps—between 6 and 12—and use a moderate to heavy weight. This will hit a pretty decent middle ground between training for strength and for size. Think of this phase as insurance for your body, which helps to prevent injury as you boost the intensity of your training and prepare for the serious hypertrophy (read: muscle-building) stage to come.

3. Eat, and then eat some more

When you're tearing down your body inside the gym, fueling becomes more important than ever; if you do it properly, you’ll have enough energy to recover, rebuild, and still get back in for your next workout. But we're not just talking about chicken breast, brown rice, and protein shakes. While you can salvage lean mass by eating a low-calorie, high-protein diet, you won’t see any explosive or noticeable growth.

Aspiring muscle growers prioritize nutrient-dense foods. Eat as many fruits and vegetables as you can tolerate, and shoot for unprocessed plant-based carbohydrates, including quinoa, amaranth, millet, and starchy vegetables like squash or sweet potato. Good lean proteins include beans, lentils, fish, nuts, seeds, and eggs. Yes, chicken breast is still fine. All meat is still fine! Just don't confuse a cutting diet, which are often low in calories and high in protein, with a muscle-building diet, which includes a fair portion of carbohydrates.

Two other pro tips: Chew your food thoroughly, which helps make nutrients available to the body immediately, and try to drink at least 50 percent of your body weight in ounces of water each day. Hydration is always your friend.

4. Don't cross-pollinate exercises

There are professional athletes out there who are great at more than one sport. But you, in all likelihood, are not one of them. If building muscle is really your top priority for 2019, take some time to focus on lifting weights and not doing a whole lot else. It’s possible to put on muscle while still including long endurance work, but for most people, that balancing act will be more trouble than it's worth. Those Saturday morning ten-mile runs, like biceps curls, can wait for a few weeks.

5. Consistency includes variety (and breeds success)

Routines don't become routines overnight; they become routines because people go weeks or months or years without changing a thing. To ward off boredom, it's a very good idea to mix up the weights, or change the occasional rep scheme, or combine several core movements into one. just to keep the body guessing. But always remember: proficiency before creativity. Don’t go hitting thrusters—that’s a squat into a press—before you’ve got the squat 100 percent down.

Why? “You’ll need to fall in love with the press, deadlift, squat, and more—and if you're going to do this over the long term, you'll need to fall in love with all those things more than once.

The Ideal Christmas Cocktail Party Look
DSC02209.jpg

When the cocktails are a-flowin’, the suit separates should still be showin’. For cocktail attire, look to more relaxed tailoring, and embrace the split.

Try a blazer and trouser combination in navy, grey or black. See cocktail attire as the perfect opportunity to mix fabrics and colours.

Then, pair with slim-fit trouser separates or chinos in a dark hue. Add a collared shirt, based out by a leather brogue, a buttery Chelsea boot or this season’s footwear favourite — the penny loafer.

Depending on the event, you may be able to go open neck.

Don’t forget to wear your favourite watch. I choose the Rado DiaMaster Petite Seconde!

True Gentleman Always Wears a Wristwatch
DSC02390.jpg

At a time when a person can easily look at the smartphone's display, a true gentleman continues to wear a wristwatch. Here are the main reasons I think true gentlemen still wearing wristwatches like me:

  • Watches are a sign of style. The watch you choose to wear can attract others' attention more than the clothes you wear. And when it comes to gentlemen, the watch is an accessory that deserves to be appreciated. The wristwatch makes it easy to get a sense of style. This is a form of self-expression - it reflects the character. Like my Rado DiaMaster Petite Seconde express my more stylish, tailored and minimal side.

  • Wristwatches are pieces of art. Wristwatch is more than a time tracking device. It is a symbol of tradition and history which carries the spirit of handmade work. I Each of the mechanisms is placed manually, and the result is a truly unique piece of art. Few are the men who realize that the wrist watch is a piece of art. Only a true gentleman always appreciates this exquisite accessory that complements his garments.

  • A wristwatch is the perfect investment. It is not actually a true financial investment. It is rather an investment in your appearance and style, and thus in your way of life.  For a long time, prestige and elegance go hand in hand with the expensive and stylish wristwatch.

Essentials you need for your date night wardrobe
DSC03332.jpg

Often, you’ll find yourself face-to-face with a girl you want to get to know a bit better. You strike whilst the iron is hot and find yourself going on a date sooner than expected, which means you need to dress as well as act the part. What you wear will be the first thing she notices about you. You should always be prepared to have your attire discussed as much as the merits of your personality and etiquette when she rejoins her friends. Choose a nice well fitted pair of blue trousers, a grey jacket, white shirt, black oxfords and pay attention to the watch! Choose a minimal leather strapped watch like my Rado DiaMaster Petite Seconde.

The Antony Morato Camel Coat
Total Look: Antony Morato

Total Look: Antony Morato

The camel coat is the most eye-catching outer garment in menswear. Winter metropolitan streets and avenues are crowds of blues and greys; smart, but extremely uniform. The camel coat is expressive, and should therefore be used sparingly. It is not an ‘everyday’ coat, but one which should be used on special occasions and with special outfits. It goes without saying that it is far higher maintenance than darker coats – spots and splashes will be more evident throughout wet periods, so save it for those beautiful crisp sunny-but-frosty mornings. Casual outfits can be stylish as well.

Follow the rules below to impress:

  1. Wear well-fitted clothes.

  2. Wear some kind of accessory - a bracelet, a chain or a stylish watch.

  3. Wear a jacket with details ( like my US Polo ).

  4. Trim your beard, and keep it well-styled.

  5. Your footwear needs to match your attire, and suit your personality.

  6. Do not be afraid of color. Wear what suits your skin tone, lifestyle and professional decorum.

  7. If you are transforming/upgrading your style, do it gradually. Change one element at a time. It gives you a chance to assess what really blends well with your personality.

Straps vs. Bracelets
IMG_0244.jpg

Nothing can change the look of a watch more than the strap or bracelet you choose to wear. From dressy to casual, tough to delicate and metal to leather to rubber to fabric, your choices are nearly endless. Your options are limited perhaps only by your taste and sense of what looks good on your wrist.

If you prefer the smart casual style or you need a watch for the glam nights out, then you should go for a watch with a strap. Bracelets will fit in some outfits and occasions too, but my favorite is a watch with strap. I would suggest you to go for an all-time classic black strap that suits everything like mine, Rado DiaMaster Petite Seconde.

If you are the type of guy who is sporty and always on the go, a watch with a bracelet is what will suit you the best. Bracelets are a popular option, especially for situations where moisture – water or sweat – may come into play.

Why I love my office
IMG_3312.jpeg

My office is a cozy, book-lined room, with a dark wooden desk and a window overlooking the garden. I am happy there, although on some days, when there is rather a lot of traffic on the road, it can be quite noisy.

But I like looking out of the window while I study, writing on my laptop. I am a city person. If I go for a short walk, I come back brimming with ideas. I find myself quiet often at my desk. I use a laptop, which is usually buried under papers, and I have a typewriter, too. I like typewriters; you can type with real flourish. I can easily loose the sense of time while writing that’s why I always keep my DiaMaster Rado watch on my wrist.

How To Choose And Style A Blue Suit
Watch: Rado DiaMaster Petite Seconde

Watch: Rado DiaMaster Petite Seconde

A blue suit is perfect for warmer weather conditions, adding a splash of color and lightening up your suit wardrobe. While it is versatile and can definitely carry you through to the winter months.

Buying a suit can be a really daunting process, especially when you’re spending good money and are looking for more of an investment piece. I’ve tried to help ease the fear with some helpful tips and tricks for not only buying your suit, but also picking what to wear with a blue suit when it comes to shirts and accessories.

If it’s a perfect fit you’re after, the only advice to give is to visit a tailor. Whether you get a suit custom made or buy a suit and have it altered, if you want a suit tailored to suit you, the seamstress has to have taken your body measurements into account. Let’s face it, buying a suit from a store is never going to be perfectly fitting. However, this definitely isn’t the easiest, or most cost efficient option so don’t worry, we’ve pulled together some pretty strong advice for choosing your dream suit.

The best thing about mastering the smart-casual look is that you can go straight from the office to the bar – winner. Swap out your crisp shirt for a plain with a monochromatic bold shirt and some boots instead of brogues for a sharp but more casual style.

If you are the kind of guy who cannot live without a watch, like me, choose a nice watch with minimalistic design, blue details and readable dials. Like my Rado DiaMaster Petite Seconde.

Le Logis: The Home Of Grey Goose in France
day_1_drinks_DSC05600_3000.jpg

Tucked away in the heart of the renowned Cognac region is Le Logis – the 17th-century country manor that Grey Goose calls home. This region is not only famous for producing the world’s finest wines and spirits, but it’s also where the maître de chai (cellar master), François Thibault, was born and raised. The estate was restored and renovated from the ground up, with special care taken to preserve its historic significance inside and out. Comfortable, contemporary and chic, Le Logis has 14 elegant bedrooms, a salon, dining room, open-house kitchen, patio, outdoor swimming pool, poolside BBQ and cocktail bar. A series of specially designed immersive spaces bring the production of GREY GOOSE to life. From field to bottle, each space reveals a part of our unique story. Last week I had the chance to travel to Le Logis all the way from Greece and live a true unique experience with the best team ever. Grey Goose always hosts the best events, but this time was something unexpected and out of a dream.

It was during our welcome dinner of passable French cuisine, when our glasses were filled with white-, red- and rosé-coloured vodka cocktails rather than wine as expected (perhaps sourced from one of the many vineyards that directly enveloped us), that our group agreed that something special was about to happened the next 2 days. Next day a two-hour morning induction into the development of the brand and the drink’s manufacturing process included a tasting of a number of Grey Goose spirits flavoured with fruits was waiting us. I had the chance to learn everything about the world’s most tasteful vodka. The whole group was so focused and impressed about the innovation, the passion and love that is behind the Grey Goose production. A fun bread-making class allowed us to get tactile with the flour used in the vodka’s production and to make a fun break between the cocktails and the photoshoots.

Tips on How To Take Care of Your Watch
IMG_1805.jpeg

A watch does more than just tell the time. Often, there are personal memories associated with it, making it an incredibly sentimental object. And, if taken care of properly, you can pass your watch on to future generations. Like I am planning to do with my Rado HyperChrome Autmatic Chronograph. Watches are built to last, and it’s not difficult to properly take care of it to keep it in top shape:

1.Clean your watch as often as possible. Take a soft cloth and wipe down the band and the case to remove any dirt or dust.

2.Get your watch serviced every two or three years for a mechanical watch and three to four years for a quartz watch.

3. Know your watch’s water resistance. Most watches these days are built with some water resistance, but vintage watches tend to lose their waterproofness over time. If your watch is not water resistant, it can still handle small splashes of water, but it’s best to avoid it. And, if your watch has a leather band, avoid getting your watch wet –water weakens the leather.

4. Take care of the crystal. This is quite obvious, but it’s still important and worth mentioning. Take every precaution you can to prevent from banging the crystal of your watch against a wall or any other objects that may cause scratches.

5. Keep your watch box for storage. When not wearing your watch, it’s best to keep it in the box it came in. By setting the watch on its side or on the crystal, there is always the possibility the watch could get scratched. The watch box is made to keep the watch safe and offers protection for the watch.

6. Never open your watch by yourself. Leave this to a watchmaker. Opening your watch can expose it to dust, dirt, and other particles that can get inside the movement, so it’s best to leave this up to a professional.

Top 5 Favorite Things
IMG_1815.jpeg

1) Nikon 18-200mm Telephoto Zoom Lens

A really smart photographer told me to not worry so much about the camera body – instead focus on buying good glass. At the time I was shooting with Canon – but getting fed up with having to change lenses multiple times a day and carry a backpack of equipment – so I decided to find the best all in one lens I could afford. That led me to the Nikon 18-200mm. Now I always have my camera, never change the lens, and always get the shot. And most of the pictures you see on my website were shot with this lens.

2 ) My Rado Hyperchrome Automatic Chronograph

I love durable timepieces that fit my sleek, stylish and dynamic attitude. I never leave the house without my Rado HyperChrome Automatic Chronograph, an automatic watch made of plasma high-tech ceramic that for sure will last forever.

3) My Running Shorts

I was a track & cross country runner in both high school and college. To this day I try to get out and run at least a few times a week in addition to lifting weights at the gym. I never ever run without my favorite pair of running shorts.

4 ) My backpack

I am always on the go. I travel a lot and am constantly at meetings and events. My favorite backpack is my best friend because it fits everything and is stylish too.

5 ) My Thermos

The great Navin R. Johnson said, “I had wealth, power, and the love of a beautiful woman. Now I only have two things: my friends, and my thermos.” Well – I don’t have the power or wealth yet, but I do have good friends and a great thermos. As a coffee and tea drinker – a good thermos just makes sense. I use it daily so I don’t have to travel to the kitchen to reheat my tea – and when on the road I save a few bucks and avoid the risk of a bad road brew.

What To Wear On A Night Out
IMG_1813.jpeg

It’s finally time to get away from your desk and enjoy a night out. No need to wear a three-piece suit, but being appropriately dressed, comfortable and stylish is ideal for any occasion, whether it’s smart or not. With so many styles and personal preferences there’s no set rule on what to wear on a night out. However, what do you wear to a club?

Choose a classic black suit! For the shirt, make sure it’s slim fit, long enough in the sleeves (no short sleeved shirts), and buttoned up to your collar bone. The trousers also need to be slim fit, as anything too loose is immediately going to look too relaxed and possibly messy. As for shoes, keep to neat lace-ups like oxford shoes and brogues. However, if that just isn’t for you, you can also try a very neat pair of suede chukka boots to keep things classy but comfortable.

Pair it up with your sleek and stylish watch! As you already know I am always wearing the Rado HyperChrome Automatic Chronograph, which I love!

Do you need something that’ll inject a dose of proper manliness into your wardrobe? Are you sick of the same old jacket styles season after season? You’ve done the parka, the Harrington and the bomber jacket and you’re out of ideas. Well, we have just the guide for you and it involves a classic favourite of ours; the men’s aviator jacket.

The aviator jacket, also known as the pilot jacket or flight jacket is absolutely timeless and is anything but your standard men’s leather jacket. And although you might be thinking the last man to be seen effortlessly rocking an Aviator jacket was a young Leonardo DiCaprio in the appropriately named Hollywood classic The Aviator, at least you know you’re in good company. But you don’t need to own an aeroplane or even a pilot’s license to look good in this wardrobe essential.

I found the ideal aviator jacket and it is from Pepe Jeans. Guys you should all go and check it out.

My Hackett London Grey Suit
Suit: Hackett London

Suit: Hackett London

When it comes to suits, nothing beats the staples. And by staples, we mean black, navy and grey. Navy and black have always had a general popularity for their adaptability, but grey also emerges as a worthy suit colour choice. In fact, grey suits have become more prevalent in street style, their versatility especially appealing to the younger market. For something clean, understated and classic, a grey suit does the trick. However grey can also be tricky to perfect. Done right grey reads youthful and modern; done wrong it will leave you looking outdated and frumpy.

Suit: Hackett London

Suit: Hackett London

Light Grey Suit

Light grey suits are an excellent choice for formal and casual looks. They are youthful, modern and sharp – but as with all suits, tailoring is essential. Ensure you’re choosing grey suits that do not overwhelm your body and fit your shoulders appropriately. Lighter versions of grey are also an appealing option for the hotter months and provide a summery alternative to the monotony of black and navy. You are also going to want to make sure you keep an eye out for potential dirt marks as light grey can stain quite easily.

Casual Styling for Light Grey Suit

Wearing light grey suits can be a softer approach to grey tailoring, and they work phenomenally well for casual wear. The key to embracing light grey for casual looks is to go for suits that come in lightweight materials and fabrics such as cotton. Pair a light grey suit with white trainers for a relaxed look inspired by recent street style trends. Alternatively, a brighter trainer will draw emphasis to your outfit and inject a dash of colour to your looks. White complements light grey well but does not be afraid to incorporate darker tones like burgundies and navies to ground your looks.

Lately, it’s all about leather in my outfits. Not leather imitation, real, quality, leather. That’s the only kind I want.

Recently I could have purchased a leather imitation jacket for myself for pennies… but I chose real leather instead. It looks way better, it feels way better and it will look great for years.

One thing that I looked at when I got my leather jacket was the pockets. I don’t really go for jackets that have a lot of zippers. the fewer the better. Call it a matter of personal preference but I’d rather “load” my outfit with some separate accessories than with some annoying zippers. How do you like my new PEPE JEANS leather jacket?

One of the things I absolutely *LOVE* to do here at Be Stylish is to take a complete outfit, reverse-engineer it, then tell you how to put it back together for yourself.

But classy suits and silk slim ties is not the only thing that’s stylish. A biker look can show just as much style as the most expensive suit IF you wear it in the right circumstances. Plus, you need to BE the kind of guy who would wear something like this.

Today I want to present to you a classic biker look. The black-grey t-shirt and jeans are everything you need. You don’t need much help here, just go for some simple denim.

Boots! if you’re really going for that biker look, the books will make the whole difference. Just imagine Dustin in wearing black leather shoes instead. he wouldn’t make that much of a fashion statement in that case.

Add to the boots a leather belt, a cool haircut and we’re done… or are we?

Remember: it’s all in the details.
