IWC Spitfire Perpetual Calendar Digital Date

Originally introduced back in 2012 in rose gold, IWC’s Spitfire Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month Chronograph has been given a makeover for 2015. Now sporting a 46 mm stainless steel case, the design — IWC’s only pilot to show the date and month digitally (via four large numerals) — sees a shiny anthracite dial with Arabic numerals, additional dials for seconds, leap year, 12-hour and 60-minute registers and twin digital date and month displays. As before, the piece is powered by a caliber 89801 automatic movement — with 51 jewels and a 68-hour power reserve — and comes complete with a sapphire crystal screw-down case back that highlights a Spitfire-shaped rotor.

The stainless steel edition of the Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month Chronograph is priced at $32,500 USD and is available now from IWC dealers.

24k Gold Xbox One by ColorWare

Because splashing gold over a Beats Pill and a PS4 controller wasn’t enough, the folks at ColorWare figured they might as well give the Xbox One the Midas touch. The company has released a limited edition version of the console that has been emblazoned with a pearl metallic white finish on the body and 24K gold accents located above and below the drive panel. Included with the system is an even more gilded wireless controller, as well as all the (non-gilded) standard accessories that comes with the original packaging. Only 50 of these consoles are available, so for those who have $1,199 USD to spare.

Beats Launches Apple-Inspired Solo2 Wireless Collection

The recent acquisition of Beats by Apple Inc. has done little to change either side’s M.O., and aside from the press releases, there’s been little to outwardly proclaim this new era of electronics production. The headphones come in three different colorways – gold, silver and gunmetal grey – that perfectly match iPhones, iPads, and the recently-updated MacBook. Panerai (PAM 570) Radiomir 1940 3 Days GMT Oro Rosso

Italian luxury watchmaker Panerai has recently added a new silhouette to its family of Radiomir watches with the Radiomir 1940 3 Days GMT Oro Rosso. Like a family name of any other sort, the elongated title definitely implies a sort of regality about the piece. The watch is issued with a handsome 47mm red gold casing, which is accented with illuminated dials and hands. Within the body, a simplified three-hand system indicates hours, minutes, and a second timezone – which justifies the “GMT” engraved above 9 o’clock. A hand-wound Panerai P.3001/10 movement under the hood features a three-day power reserve, which is visible through the caseback. Limited to just 300 editions, check out Panerai’s latest offering above, then head to the brand site to pick up one for yourself.

Omega The Globemaster

New to Omega‘s Constellation family of timepieces is the Swiss luxury watchmaker’s Globemaster. Employing what Omega claims is its most advanced mechanical movement ever, the new design has undergone a brand new certification that goes beyond that of the usual COSC.

Boasting a 39mm case of stainless steel, 18 SEDNA gold, two-tone or platinum, the Globemaster makes use of a pie-pan dial along with a fluted bezel — the latter of which is perhaps a nod to the Constellations of the ’50s. The caliber 8900 can then be seen through the watch’s sapphire case back while a beautiful medallion — which depicts an observatory surrounded by eight stars as an homage to the steps of the METAS certification, as well as the eight chronometric records set by Omega throughout the 20th century — is set into the crystal. Finally, the watch is even water resistant up to 100 meters. Omega’s Globemaster will soon be available with prices starting around $7,700 USD.

Hermès Debuts the Slim d’Hermès, Its First Timepiece in 20 Years

Unveiled at Baselworld is Hermès‘ first foray back into timepieces in over 20 years. The French label is rolling out a range of unisex watches in three sizes — 39.5mm, 32mm and 25mm — clad in a variety of luxury materials and makes. With a stainless steel or rose gold casing upon clear sapphire crystal backs, finished with straps of either alligator, steel, calf or Barenia leather, the label is bringing its upscale luxury and quality to your wrists. There are also options to add diamonds to the front of the case for extra glamor. The overall look is extremely slim, with thin numerals and hands for a light piece. Designed by La Montre Hermès creative director Philippe Delhotal, the watches are made almost entirely in-house as Hermès partly owns the Swiss movement maker Vaucher, as well as case maker Joseph Erard and dial maker Natebar. The straps are crafted at Hermès’ factory in Brügg, Switzerland, with each piece assembled completely by hand. Prices start at $3,100 USD to $38,900 USD, and the full range will be available for purchase in October.

Olympus OM-D E-5 Mark II

Olympus has announced the OM-D E-5 Mark II, a classic SLR camera that is smaller and lighter, yet packed with technical refinements. Trading in the previously utilized 16MP output for 40MP, images are sharper and more detailed than ever before. Blurry photos are a thing of the past thanks to the built-in stabilizer. With each click, a burst of eight images are captured, which are then combined to create one incredibly clear snapshot. The shutter speed sees an improvement too with a 1/16000 second close time, which means during burst mode it is possible to capture 10 frames per second. The large viewfinder now operates at a higher resolution of 1024×768 pixels and the camera as a whole is water-resistant and can withstand drops of over 6 feet. The Olympus OM-D E-5 Mark II is set for a late-February release, starting at $1,250 USD.

Apple Stores to Have Special Safes for Gold Apple Watches

As we’re inching closer to the purported shipping date for the Apple Watch, something we still don’t know is how much they will cost. But if this is any indication, Apple is reported to be outfitting its stores with special safes just for the smartwatches. Supposedly for the pricier gold iterations of the watch and for store-demo units, the safes will be specially designed with the Apple Watch MagSafe chargers to ensure they are powered for use. Considering the price of already existing Apple products, this special treatment could mean some serious bucks for the pricier iterations of the Apple Watches, but for that we will have to wait and see.

The 1958 Drop Chair

Marking the duo’s second collaboration following a five year break, automotive designer MINI and Danish furniture powerhouse Republic of Fritz Hansen have once again come together to deliver an interesting rendition of the infamous Drop™ Chair.

Originally designed in 1958 by Arne Jacobsen as part of his masterpiece, the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, the Drop™ chair “combines a warm embrace with freedom of movement, resulting in a surprising level of comfort.” Widely admired as an outstanding designer in many respects, Jacobsen’s furniture and other design work have since been marked as both national and international heritage. So through a shared knowledge from decades of leading their respective design fields, it comes as no surprise that another collaboration with an influential brand such as MINI was next.

As opposed to the usual Drop™ Plastic Shell, a fabric insert has been added to the design to simulate the seating of a classic MINI automotive interior. Constructed from high quality materials such as nappa leather and nubuck, the padded seating references that of an original 1959 hatchback and comes in two color variations – The Classic and The Modern.
